Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition

Well, I took it pretty easy yesterday, since the show on Friday through Sunday was so busy! Thank you to everyone who came to the show, it was great being supported by my friends & family, and meeting so many great people - both visitors and other artists.

I just made a necklace a friend had asked for, and since the beads are already out, I've been making some more pieces too. I'll be taking some photos soon. These photos are from when I went for a walk on Sunday, and some of the colours and textures are pretty amazing.

Show Photos

I'm back with more! Here's a pair of photos of my set-up from the show, one in the dry and one following a bit of rain.  Saturday, though mostly dry, did have a few short but heavy rain showers. 

 

This is a couple of pictures of booths near mine, shortly after a short rain. 

So, about those interesting people - one of those who stood out was a guy who mentioned he's a naturalist.  His attention was drawn to my machine embroidered butterflies, as he was among several people who thought from a bit of a distance that they were real specimens and wanted a better look.  We had a really neat conversation about bugs, nature, conservation, educating people, fear of certain animals, etc. 

The overall feedback on these was really fantastic.  A member of the Mississauga Stitchery Guild was visiting the show and stopped by my booth.  She was so impressed, she has asked me to come to a Guild meeting sometime to show them and possibly do a demonstration on the techniques! 

Another great experience in the show was a photographer for SNAP Mississauga came by and took my photo with some of my work.  I'll have to check in a little bit to see if anything from that gets printed.

I was taking some photos of the newest beaded pieces a little while ago and my little flutterby friend came back.

I went outside to photograph some work, and this little beauty was resting on the deck.

I've spent some time outside taking photos - outdoors in the shade is nice for photographing work, BTW - trying to improve upon existing pictures of a couple of my machine embroidered butterflies.  I'm finding the bigger ones harder to get a nice image of.

FRIDAY!

I really didn't know what to blog about today, given that the blog is about my creative activities.  That said, tomorrow I hope to go paper scouting, there's a great little shop not far from here, and I'm looking for ideas for these wedding invitations I've been asked to make.  So, maybe I'll come back with some fun colours of paper to play with. 

Beyond that, I've watched soccer, taken some photos, made I think 3 new Etsy listings, done laundry, and we discovered not long ago that there is a mouse in the bird feeder!  Sorry if you're freaked out by the mention of mice, but it was an entertaining moment.

Pictures, Pictures, Pictures!

It's been an odd day for taking photos of my work, it couldn't decide whether it wanted to rain or shine.  Still, I have managed to take advantage of the dry moments and take pictures of a couple of new listings for Etsy, and add some better pictures to existing listings.  Some of said are up now and some I'll be adding tonight or tomorrow.

Well, my Etsy is under way.  You might notice I've added an Etsy box to link to it from the blog.  There's just a few things on there, all cards at the moment, it takes time to photograph and upload all this stuff, and of course the intent is that it's ongoing, so if you like it, it should be worth checking back from time to time.

I'm also in the process of adding to my textiles portfolio, with images of things I didn't have pictures of before, etc.  That still needs work, but here's one photo I took the other day which I quite like.
