Piecework time, almost

The One of a Kind Show starts in Toronto on Thursday, and runs for 11 days or so. I might go take a look around, but only after this coming weekend. Piecework, the show I've been preparing for, starts Friday evening. As I'll be exhibiting there, I may not be blogging alot - but I'll try to take some great photos to share after.

Sunday

I've officially begun my Christmas shopping! Er, ok, technically I had some stocking stuffers before today. Now I'm getting ideas for some friends/family (aside from or in addition to gifting some of my work to certain people). Today it was books. There are some little ones around now, and I tend to gravitate towards books for them, rather than plastic toys which are outgrown so fast at their age. I especially like finding books with beautiful illustrations, and/or stories I remember; like Robert Munsch or Eric Carle stories.

What are your favourites?

Royal Winter Fair

After watching the Remembrance Day ceremonies from Ottawa on TV yesterday morning, I went to the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair for the afternoon. As the name suggests it's much to do with farm animals, and fresh fruit and veg. There are horse shows, a petting zoo, various livestock, food competitions, and products from various Ontario and Canadian farms (honey, cheese, eggs, meats, beer/wine, mustard, cranberries, flour, fish, herbal teas, pickled things, jam, to name a few), as well as natural beauty products, clothing, and some other stuff that to my mind doesn't really relate.

I sampled some cheeses, coveted some lovely alpaca yarns, even got some free PEI potatoes (!).

Remember, Remember

I should have noted in my last post that it was the 5th of November - Guy Fawkes day.

Today, the 7th, has been a lovely sunny day. I'm trying to work really hard on things for the Piecework show in 3 weeks time, to which end I picked up some additional shadow box frames today.

The frames are for the silk free motion embroidered butterflies I've written about a number of times, otherwise known as my Psyche collection. I've created an online portfolio of a selection of those and a full explanation of the collection, which you can look at here:

Bookmarks

I've begun making some linen bookmarks - these have a wool felt applique stitched to them. I have more ideas for these in the works.
